Each winter, Vermont allows bobcats to be hunted and trapped during months when snow cover makes these elusive animals easier to track and kill.
Bobcats are not overpopulated, nor do they pose a public safety threat. They play an important ecological role by helping regulate prey populations and maintaining balanced ecosystems. Yet they continue to be targeted for recreational hunting and fur.
Killing bobcats for sport or pelts is unnecessary and out of step with modern conservation values. Many states have moved toward greater protections for native wildlife, recognizing the importance of humane, science-based management.
We urge Vermont officials to ban bobcat hunting and trapping and protect these animals as a valued part of the state’s natural heritage.

Wildlife policies are shaped by public input, and state agencies pay attention when residents and supporters speak up in large numbers. Bobcat hunting continues largely due to outdated practices, not public demand. By signing this petition, you help demonstrate that Vermonters and wildlife advocates want humane, science-based policies that prioritize conservation over recreational killing.
